My lower auger motor that came with my stove (bought used a couple years ago) started whining last winter. Pulled it out, put in an Amazon replacement (got it next day cheap, got what I paid for), which was even noisier. Opened and cleaned the transmission in the original motor and bench tested it, it ran dead silent so I reinstalled it and it was great for the rest of the winter. Recently started making the same whining noise again so I pulled it out, swapped in the noisy Amazon one again to keep the heat going and the original motor seems like its just on its way out. Regreased the transmission and its still making a racket.

So I picked up a motor from Stove & Grill Parts, its clearly remanufactured. Works but its the noisiest one of them all and one of the transmission screws is half stripped so I can't open it. Sent it back, got another, same. Grabbed another one from Amazon because I'm once again in a hurry and it arrived today. Bench tested it, it was a bit noisy at first and ran at about 1/4 rpm, but after a minute of running it sped up to 1rpm and quieted down considerably. Installed it, its quieter but I can still hear a whining noise.

Looking for opinions on what auger motors I should buy to get a decent, reliable QUIET motor. Also wondering if there are other possible causes of this noise and maybe I'm overlooking a maintenance item. The auger spins freely when the motor it out, it's not binding on anything at all. Bearing seems ok, I've greased both of them and the rotate freely. Upper auger I can hear when it runs, but its nowhere near as loud...that said this is not like a telephone ringing or anything, its just white noise in the background...I just don't like it and don't think its right.

Suggestions? Maybe I'm just nuts? I'd agree except the old motor was virtually silent for a couple years of service.

Apologies, its a 25-PVDC. I might pick up an OEM motor to see how it is. Thanks!

Not a problem, 😋

I've had good luck getting motors from Grainger. I know they're a bit more expensive but A. I get a discount through work and B. They had it. It spun the wrong way but that was easily correctable. That said, Ssyko is right, can't beat OEM.

Did you grease (hight temp) the collars on the auger motors?
