I have an Enviro Empress and it will start up and burn for a while but shut off and the middle heat light will blink. I have searched and it says it's a vacuum issue. The door seal seams to be not making a tight seal I put a dollar bill in it and closed it and it pulls out very easily. Also the ash pan gasket don't seem to be sealing good either. Is there an adjustment on thé door latch or does the gasket need to be replaced? Does anyone know the size of the door and ash pan gasket? I checked the tube running from the vacuum pump to the exhaust. Is there a way to test the pump itself?

How long does it burn before going out?
When was the last time the stove had a full tear-down cleaning?
Door gasket envrio # 50-088
On sale at Friendly Fires for 58.97 Canadian
Ash Pan FE 208 on sale friendly fires 50.00 Canadian
On the seals try cleaning with water allow to dry and
brush lightly with a fine soft hair brush to plump. I do
this with mine and have never changed them in 22 years
The switch is a vac switch (on/Off) check the hose for splits, and holes
and blow through it (Remove from the switch first)
DO NOT BLOW OR SUCK ON THE HOSE WHEN ATTACHED TO THE VAC SWITCH
Make sure the nozzle on the stove is clear, not pluged

Sometimes about 20 mins. And I just got it a few months ago. I'm planning on using it in a garage but not every day. I cleaned it some but not fully. I plan on taking it apart and cleaning it here soon but wanted to use it to make sure it's working. Is there adjustment on the door lock? And someone had messed with it before I got it. The vacuum hose is soft but when I took it off the exhaust side it was brittle where it meets the barbed fitting. I cut it off and it seems be ok What does blowing into the pump do? How do I test to see if it has failed?

If the stove starts and runs it is most likely proof of fire switch.
Also called an exhaust temperature sensor (# 1 in the parts list)
Take it off and wipe any ash that is on it and try your stove again
It is not an expensive part. You can also jump the 2 wires together and run the stove.
If it runs for 30 min. or more replace the switch but more likely just covered in ash
Do you have a manual if not here is the technical manual .

I have a manual but I'll print this one also thanks. I'll try to clean it off here in the next couple days. How well should the door seal? I put a dollar in and closed the door and it had barely any resistance pulling it out?

It does not need to be really tight. Some resistance is good
Try this put a bill on your kitchen counter put about 1/2 lb
weight on it and hold it. Pull the bill out. The amount of tension
on the bill when being pulled is about what is needed to seal the door

I believe flashing #3 light is Proof of fire. I would ensure its clean (switch with two brown wires above the exhaust blower). If its running for 15-20 minutes, then I don't think its a vacuum issue. Is it feeding properly at startup? Is this a free standing Empress? The air shutter should be adjusted properly too, but it does sound like POF issue. Good luck with her.

Thanks haven't got to mess with it but when I do I'll update. The air shutter is that the dampener? I tried to move that but it's stuck. Going to have to loosen some bolts to get that to move.

Hey big dog- Yep, the air shutter or damper, its the exhaust output path adjustment. They bind up time to time, loosening but not removing the bolts will normally get it operating. Stay warm, freezing here this weekend and today.

Pulled the proof of flame sensor and cleaned it. Is there a way to test it ? Also looked at the sensor mounted to the hopper. It still isn't getting very hot but it running still. Got the dampener freed up trying to figure where it should be set at now.

[Hearth.com] Enviro Empress questions.

Well yes you can test it if you have a multi meter and a lighter/heat source. Dmm set to continuity one lead on each spade, then warm the black spot and see if it closes or opens

Snap disc on hopper is for overheat.

That pic of disc looks pretty well beat, i would replace it just cause

Watch this video it shows Enviro Empress's flame

If the stove runs for more than 20 min. the sensor is good
But yours look the worse for wear I would replace it

Did the previous owner have the stove connected to a thermostat?
If it was, check to see if the thermostat connections on the stove have
a jumper wire connected if not put a wire across the 2 terminals the
stove will only run on low if those terminals are not connected no
matter what heat level it is set on. The jumper acts as a heat call from the stat

I don't know if it was hooked to a thermostat or not. Don't see any loose wires in there. I ran it for about three hours then left for about two hours and came back and the flame was out and the middle heat light was blinking. Going to get another sensor and try again.

Bigdog can you post a pic of your control board? The front and rear if possable

Ok cool, your thermostat wire would go where the red wires are in the pic. So if you have no tstat you need to put a wire in to connect the 2 together. Im pretty sure changing you sensor is a good idea 😎

Awesome, so we wait for the snap disc 👍

Boy, that POF was really caked on. Windex will usually clean her up shiny and clean. Adjusting the air damper, ideally should be done on high, with about 0.2 inches WC on a draft meter, and you'll see draft meter will drop down as you go lower on heat level, since exh blower slows with each level down. I always did it visually, pulling out for a vibrant white shorter flame, then close till flames extend, slow down and get darker in color. At the point of just starting to darken and flame elongating, is about the right point. Purist will want you to use a draft meter. For an Empress FS, if memory serves, the damper is about 3/4" out, from the minimum position pushed inward. The important thing is the stove is clean and free breathing, cleaning the exhaust and convection blowers, cleaning the exhaust path well, and not forgetting behind the 3 cast interior liners along with the convection tubes. Good luck with her, very aesthetic stove the Empress.

The sensor came in today and I installed it. The heater fired right up and ran for about 6 hours today without shutting off. I'll update here in a few days of running it it see if it's fixed. I tested the old one with a heat gun it opened but it's not the best way to test as I have no idea what temperature it actually opened at.
