faulty harman p68 circuit board?

I have a 16 y.o. Harman P68 that we use for primary heating all winter. The stove is generally very reliable but in the past 2-3 years the temperature dial does not seem to work correctly. In Room Temp mode, the markings on the temperature dial in no way correlate with the temperature of the room. Specifically, the dial always stays at about the hash mark that is halfway between "3" & "4"; in other words, at about 67.5 degrees on the temperature markings. At this setting, the thermostat that is within eight feet of the front of the stove will show temperatures rising and falling between 70 and 74 deg. Here's the crux of the problem: if I want a little more heat in the room, and rotate the dial the tiniest part of an arc of movement (literally one degree of a 360 degree circle) the new temperature range may be between 74 and 79 degrees. That is too much heat. Mind you, these adjustments are all within millimeters of the "3.5"/~67.5 degree marking on the Room Temp arc. If I turn the dial down to have less heat, again moving the dial just 2-3 millimeters, the temperature range can drop down to between 68 and 72 degrees. In short, I have very little control to set the room temperature with any accuracy. It is frustrating.
Is my control board defective? Or, is the room probe that hangs from the back of the stove somehow at fault? Or, something else??

More than likely it's the potentiometer, aka pot, on the board that has developed dead spots. It's a common problem that has been previously discussed on this forum. You can try using Deoxit spray and rotating the pot vigorously to see if it clears it. If you're handy with a soldering iron you can replace the pots. Or you can replace the board.
