Looks like Pellets Direct has some "damaged" pellets.

Horse Bedding Pellets - $150 (Uxbridge)
Bedding Pellets, These Softwood Pellets were supposed to be used for heating pellets, but wet corners and tears to some of the bags don't meet quality control. Here's your chance to get a steal. $150.00 per pallet (give or take a ton). You must be able to take the pallet intact so it can be loaded on your truck. Limited quantity available Cash & Carry Only

"Give or take a ton?" WTF?

I'm betting these come in a pallet that might be 1.2 tons.

I've dealt with these people in the past, no issues. Seem pretty straight up.

I'm considering taking a ride down there tomorrow. Would need to do two trips for a ton, just got a Subaru Forester.

If so I'll let you know.

Usually his model is to break damaged tons into per-bag purchase with a 10-bag minimum. Corner bash or over-wrap poke-through = damaged ton.

I know I've had trouble with the 10-bag minimum - too much for my sedan, and even at 2-3 brands it wasn't worth the 70mi trip to bring my truck unless I'm also buying a ton of something else (which is what I did).

I'll bet with the 10-bag min they are not moving as quickly as his cash flow would like, so he's looking to blow out some damaged tons locally.

Good news is you'd be "eyes on" for what you were getting. If you normally move your tons inside yourself I bet there's good choices/deals there. It'd be hard to have more than 4-6 bags compromised. Unfortunately for me my truck is down plus I need forklift placement for storage outside or I'd be nabbing a couple tons...

Not sure he'll be able to accommodate taking two trips though, best to give him a call. Could be worth bringing a small U-Haul trailer if you have a hitch.

Good luck,
- Jeff
