hello all, new member here, and would like to share my experience with all here.after 3 years of planing, rechearch ,designing and carefull procurement, i started my project on first of november 2015 and fired up my baby on march 2 2016.
my project was not for everyone to do, i first needed to retrofit my house for radiant heating, needed to build a new garage with basement to lay boiler and water tank,(50 feet away from the house), the project was completly self build (the wife helped a lot) self tought and with some help from Mike at Biothermic in northern Ontario, self commissioned.
i can't help to mentioned the amazing help i got from ther company, from rechearch in procurement of the Froling boiler, help in design according to my specific needs, procurring boiler and all relative piping instruments required from boiler to storage tank, managing de
iverry in Magog !Quebec, they have been there for me even if i was 22000 km away (did it al while i was in australia).
i would recommand them to anybody wanting to install shuch a system wood log or pelets, they are the guys to do it.
like i said my system was not for everyone, since the cost of infrastructure was very significant, and the project was not a necessity since i was heating electrical, but i needed to have it ,warm floors during winter nights was well worth it for me and my wife.
i will be posting full history later, till then, here are a few picks to give general idea and a list of major components.
new garage with basement
Froling FGH 3000 turbo
500 gallons atmospheric reserve tank
full Caleffi piping hardware
full 3500 feet Uponor pex piping garage and house
Caleffi manifolds and zone control in the house mechanical room
all pumps Groundfos
Tekmar controls
lots of sweat,bruises and band-aid.

PS sorry for typo ,i am french Canadian

Welcome to the B.R. and congrats on the project and the great boiler.

Enjoy.

Scott

That's nice having a basement in your garage for all your heating stuff. Looks like not to much space above the boiler is there still enough head room to remove your turbulators?

That's a nice unit - congrats.

Wondering what the deciding factors were in using an unpressurized storage tank?
well being in the oil and gas buisness building rafinery for 25 years ,i wanted to stay away from pressurized vessels, further more i had available a 500 gal, isolated, jacket piped Zero milk tank, all Ss 316/304 and before going in the house i am Splitong for floor heating for both garages, the jacket pipe is for future solar panels for summer heating of DHWT .
the tank is separated from boiler by plates heat exchanger
so all of those added, it was easier for me to go with un-pressurized tank

OK, cool.

I was also wondering what that thing was sitting on top of your tank - but now that you said it was a milk tank, I am guessing it's maybe an agitator motor?

corect, since not a lot of stratification in horizontal tank, and summer to e less btu comming from solar panel,i will agitate to mix cold and warm

Do u heat DHW ? How many sf are you heating?
2000 sft of flooring, two radiator in basement, two garages (one floor heating, one force flow heater) pre- heat with 30 gal, indirect water heater before going to gas tankless water heater, this summer will install heat exchanger for spa and de-icing on spa roof and some sidewalks

Kewl.. That plate type heat exchanger that is blanked off in one of your pics.must be for the spa and roof de-icing?

Might have been pricey but will pay for itself in the long haul.:)

Do you pay for your wood? I estimate I save close to $4g a year.maybe more. I heat close to 4800sq ft. as well as 2 dhw tanks. I am 50 also, would be nice to live till 80.. get some of my pension contributions back..
