My montigo sp28-f2 gas fireplace wall switch is off, gas and pilot light had been shut off and not in used for at least 20 years suddenly making a buzzing noise like a phone ring for a couple of minutes and then stop in the middle of the night for the past two nights. It does not have a battery pack.

Probably something pecking on the vent. Usually starts to happen this time of year by wood peckers but usually during daytime.

You are absoutely right. My wife said the same. This afternoon the noise happened again. I went to my backyard and saw this bird pecking on the vent. Same pecking sound. The mysery is solved. Thank you!
