If anyone doubts what could happen if the US retools our economy for "green", they should take a look at GE:

FAIRFIELD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GE today reaffirmed that "green is green," reporting that revenues from its portfolio of energy efficient and environmentally advantageous products and services surged past $12 billion in 2006, up 20% from 2005, while the order backlog rose to $50 billion.

That's some serious dough!
Although there still is no substitute for the high profits of taking oil out of the ground and retailing it, I can see a day in the not too distant future when conservation becomes the most profitable industry.
