Question:

New to pellet stoves. Just got Quarafire Contour over holidays and it seems to be working fine . Initially direct vented two feet out wall with horizontal deflector, now have vent tee with four foot vertical stack and deflector . At night notice glowing fly ash exiting vent usually just after pellets fall in pot . Dealer says normal. Just looking for added reassurance or knowledgeable opinion .Tried three different brand pellets without any change.

Answer:

Sounds normal to me. There's a lot of air movement in the burn chamber and the pellet ash is very fine and very light. I'm very "not worried". You can keep searching for more opinions...but anyone that knows anything will agree with the dealer because it's the truth. Maybe the dealer has a pellet stove in operation in the store? Maybe a friend has a pellet stove too.
