Attention Lowes,

This is the year 2013. Theres this new thing out, its for websites. Its called a "basket." Can you say
B-A-S-K-E-T? See, I buy things from you, and then you send them to me. You don't tell me I cant buy what you have, that would be called "bad business." Can you say that? Try it slowly.

How hard is it to list a particular item number on the internet? Every year I have to go to the store instead, and hunt down a person who tells me what I want to hear. You cant sell me my preferred brand, even if I'm standing in the store looking at the pallets in stock. I can only have those if I carry them out?? WTH is that? Wait, it gets even better. You want me to buy "mystery pellets" if I need a delivery.

Lowes of Kingston NY, shame on you especially! Your store and web policy on pellets not only sucks, but its downright ridiculous.

They told me that last year, but I called and spoke with customer service. The girl there wrote down all over my invoice that I wanted Somersets. I called a few times after to make sure it was verified that I wanted Somersets. She said it was and would even tell the delivery guy to pull the Somersets down. They all had the same sku # but if you look at the pallets you can see through and see the pellet type. I also stated to her if they were GS or GT I would be sending them back. Wouldn't you know it I got my Somersets. You just may have to call and get the right person unless they changed their policy. Good luck!

I'm not giving up! I asked to speak to a manager, and they hung up on me! Called the main customer service line. They say they are gonna track down what I want, and call me back. I will let you know.

Yeah they seem to not know how to use the hold button over there. Same happened to me a few times.

Sadly because to them pellets are pellets. You get whatever is convienent to them at the time.

I wish you luck and hope it works,

But I doubt they will order just a few tons for just you. I have heard of a group order(see post). I doubt they will ship just a few tons from the mill to the store.. They usually only ship a full 24 ton load. So you may need to get some friends in on a full load.

Keeping my fingers crossed, And if it does work. I'll be on the horn to my local BBS. Cause we also have a bunch of chit this season! ;sick

I spoke (very nicely) to the daytime garden manager (Lowes in Newburgh). he wrote my name in BIG letters on the exact 2 tons I wanted.

And that's what I got....no hassle at all.

.....and what brands are they carrying now,.... (Kingston & Newburgh)

I did the same last year, but I also picked them up ASAP.

Our local Lowes has a good staff. However, I have found that when I want to get it right, I need to go there mid day on weekdays. Then I get to direct my question to those in charge of their departments. They have a huge number of staff who used to work as contractors, plumbers, carpenters etc. The lowes here is clean and well stocked and no lack of staff to help.

TSC pulled a switch on me also. During the pe-order sale I asked the manager what pellets they would be getting and she said Ozarks hardwood. I pre-paid in July. I got a call a couple of days ago that the pellets had arrived and when I got there they were Heatr's, the same pellet that HD is rebranding here. Customer associate said they would not be getting the Ozarks this year. I won't be using that pre-purchase "sale" again. Not the type of roulette I want to play.

but, well, they get a "pass" since they are a big box store, right?

last I checked newburgh had AWF, timber heat and I think they still had natures own

HD has GS
The Newburgh store also had another brand a month ago that was a "re-bagged" pellet. When the sales guy ran the order info on his computer "register", it came back as Somerset. I didn't try any, nor could I confirm it....he wouldn't let me pull the wrapper open to look.

Still no phone call, not surprising. Might have to settle for some new England pellets.

I don't even like to pre-order from a pellet dealer. Ya just never know with pellets. A Mill fire could stop all shipments pronto!

New England are the same as the Green Supreme's. Just a different bag. We have a thread on here where a NEWP rep even stated that. Just look for the NH plant as its a little bit better quality.

Thanks jtake, but now I'm even more confused. I never tried green supreme, but I do know most others rate them poorly. New England seemed to burn well for me last year though, didn't notice much difference between them and somersets. I suppose its just my stove, but it didn't like timber heat very much...... not on low setting anyway. This really sucks, having to try every brand before buying. You guys have been a big help though, I must say.

I guess I wont be paying $25 extra per pallet for NE from my local dealer. Plan B, out the window! Back to being at the mercy of the big box stores again, the dreaded roulette wheel. Friggin yay!
Until I hear about a better deal in my area, I'm holding out. It aint getting any warmer though, and buying by the bag just sucks.

Don't go so much by how we rate em. Every ones standards are a we bit different. Start the season off with something you know works and play around once you get burning. Maybe you'll get lucky and something good will cross your path.

I'm spoiled, Both me and the Mrs drive past box stores on the way home. Stopping for a couple bags isn't a biggie for me. Same goes for one pellet house. And another is only a lttle bit out of the way.

I like having my pellets squared away for winter. One of the added benefits is, with the pressure off, I can shop around and try a few under different conditions. It isn't easy to judge the heat output unless it is really cold out. Best temp for me is between 20 to 30 degrees. Can't have that kind of fun with fossil fuel!
