so before we got our VC wood burner our gas bill was $220 a month for heating and our gas dryer. now our heating bill is $97 a month our house is just over 2100sqft.
I too am curious to see what kind of dent I can make in the gas bill. Also have a VC Montpelier. It could actually heat our house full time I think but this year I've only got pine to burn which means no overnight fires which means lots of restarts which means I burn a lot less than I otherwise would. Our gas bill was usually only about $110 a month so I know our savings won't be huge but it is nice to save something, especially seeing as we are keeping the house we quite a bit warmer than we otherwise would.
My big savings are not having to run the electric heat in my shop and office. between that and the natural gas bill in the house, im saving around $300 a month. Now lets see deduct $7000 for timberwolf splitter, $5000 for timberwolf conveyor, chain saws, two new stoves. I should break even around 2038. Oh well its fun anyway, at least I get to talk to you fine folks at Hearth .com
Yes just got my first gas bill since I started using my summit this fall, was a little late getting it installed... still though my bill was only $22 would normally be $122 so pretty happy. House is more comfy as you can’t beat radiant heat vs forced air cycling on and off.
I cant really tell you how much I save a year as I havent bought any heating oil or electricity for four years. 3 to 4 cords of wood a year and that is it.
Of course i wrote some big checks over the years to get this way but now its paying off.
