To start off we have been running this furnace I think right at 10 years. Always been great heat and only an issues when we get lazy. Well it stopped working Friday night. So I work on it Sat and figured it would be something simple.
Vacuumed out furnace, Cleaned pipe's, Cleaned out the inside, emptied pellets, cleaned burn pot. There was some fines in the screw. Vacuumed those out also.
Feed motor would not work. It had grease or oil on the bottom of the gearcase. So figured after 10 years it was about ready to go. I did short out the 2 wires going from the vacuum port. And did not get the motor to run. So ordered a new screw motor Monday.
It came in Wed, put it on and still no go. So I found a cord and plugged the motor in straight. It ran good, so old motor was good also. But I was just lazy, as we had the Heatpump for heat. But it Froze up Tuesday morning. So no heat other then oil heaters I hate those.
I just cleaned the pellet furnace again. And did get about a teacup of ash but that was about it.
HELP I have ran out of stuff to check. I will take down the stove pipes this evening. And check them for sure. AS the installer did not do as good a job as he should have. They go up on 3ft section then turn 90 into a 4ft section then 90 up 3ft into the old Wood heater stove flu. Man I wish I had left that wood heater in.
To me I'm almost sure its draft related. But when everything is clean. What is next?
Also did not run it last winter. $250. per ton,and pellets are made within 50 miles of me. And would not pay that again. This past summer they were still $235. here . But found a place 30 miles from me selling them for $150. so picked up 4 ton. Guess It did not like sitting idle for a year.
