This is my 6th year using a Harman XXV. Having trouble keeping the house warm. Apparently I have been living in a cloud because I now realize the fan is not blowing much if any. I removed back cover to view distribution fan with heater on Room Temp Mode, distribution fan set between medium & high, feed adjuster on 4, manual setting. Outside temp is 27. Inside temp is 61. Distribution fan light is on but fan is not running. I turned off stove and let cool down. I can not spin the distribution fan. Is the fan supposed to spin freely with stove off? Thanks for any information.
 
Thanks for the link. My stove is installed in a corner with 6 to 8" clearance to wall at both corners thus I do not feel I can replace fan without sliding stove out. It is so heavy I am not sure I can get it back and lined up correctly with the stove pipe. I am 66 and can get help from my sons but I have my concerns. On another note, the manual says this stove is built to run with or without the distribution fan running. I think the distribution fan has been locked up all year and I am just now realizing it.

Get the young muscle over there and swap that thing out. You can do it!

I have about the same clearance as you and I'm in my 60's as well. It's a bit of a Houdini act to do the work but if I can do it you can do it too.

I would recommend getting the replacement blower on hand before you start the tear down. I got mine from my local dealer and fortunately had it in stock.
 
I have an XXV. When I bought it my dealer had mentioned if I move for any reason, be careful to not cause any side impact to the legs, as he had seen one case of a leg broken off ($$$). I've not seen any reports of this here or elsewhere, but something to be careful of.

I too am in my mid 60's and while I don't have any immediate thoughts about moving the XXV, I've thought about trying to building a dolly with some sort of jacking mechanism that would fit underneath the stove to make moving easier..
 
Had the same problem 3-4 weeks ago. Posted my experience here.

I'm confused though - If you don't have enough clearance to get the distribution fan out, how do you clean your combustion fan??? The distribution fan just drops out the bottom once you loosen the screws much easier to get at than the combustion fan.

I lean over the left side of the stove and remove the combustion fan and clean. It has two wing nuts and a bolt on the bottom. I just do not have room to access the distribution fan by leaning over from the top. I have 7.5" clearance at the corners. I am going to see if there is an easier way all the is time by reaching in from the side. I am 6'-0, 200 lbs. Is the distribution fan better accessible from the right side or left or does it not matter? Is there better access to the distribution fan by removing the combustion fan first?
 
in process of doing this to mine ... no rush (fortunately) ... I am a bit older as well ... installed it solo (had help getting in down 5 outside stairs) but with some yankee creativity one can push , slide pull and manipulate it .... mine is on slate floor so gentle slides..... I often use the computer dusters in can for tight places .. yeah it make dust cloud but it settles and then I vac the lower with brush and tube accessories ... my blower lasted 9 years ? or 8 or 8.5? wonder if that is the normal life of these ...cheapest I found was 250 local :( ... I called three places local ... and shopped online but 116 seems low?

I just bought a distribution blower for a P61 for $64 no tax and free shipping, and it is working fine. Some pellet stove parts sites wanted $200 for the same blower.

I installed a new distribution blower on 2/14/14. I then installed a new combustion fan on 2/21/14. I read your post but for some reason it did not resonate with me about dropping the distribution blower out the bottom. The part came with instructions thank God. Thanks for everyone's help. BTW, Distribution blower was $260 and Combustion fan was $103. I purchased a new combustion fan blade also. Stove runs so good!!
 
I just replaced the distribution blower on my P61a, bought it from Grainger cost was $79 installation was simple.
