Just recently purchased Harman P61a pellet stove. The blower was defective so we have to get Harman to give us a new one. Now that it has been repaired were concerned that the top of the stove is not hot to the touch (as we were told it would be) but hot enough to cook an egg on. Further the flame is extending all the way up to the top of the stove. We have not found a way to lower the flame (other then trying it off). We have read the manual looked online and tried alternating feed rates (3 to 1) and lowering the blower. Problem is that the blower is still (regardless of Low or High settings) pushing the flame to 6-8 high and making the top of the stove incredibly hot. Need to know if warm surface was just a sales ploy or does the top of the stove get very high.
Also we are running about 1.5 bags a day to with the blower low and the feed rate at 3. We have a 2100 square room house. Need some help. Thanks.

We also have a P61a new this Fall.
Which mode are you running it in?? Room or stove temp
We have been running ours in stove temp mode and like it.
When we turn the control down to 1, the flame is constant but fairly small.

The blower adjustment (Low to High) is for the blower which circulates
the warm air to the room not the air across the burn pot.

****Make sure that the temp sensor is NOT placed in a cool/cold area****
If you are running in Room Temp mode, it is using the sensor for feedback.

To Test:
With stove in room temp mode and set for 85(Make sure it will call for heat),
hold the end of the sensor in front of the warm/hot air for 30-45 seconds.
The pellet feed auger should stop feeding pellets because the control board thinks
the room temp is higher than set point.

Hope this helps. If it does not back off, then I would suspect a bad temp sensor or control board.

BTW, our blower has been noisy and we are waiting for the dealer to schedule a repair.

all Harman Pellet Pro series stoves (P38, 43, 61, 61A and 68) get hot on the top and sides. On high burn you can boil water on the top.

Yes,
The top of ours gets very warm on low to med.
The sides, even with the heat shields, get quite warm also.
If it ran full tilt, I bet we could cook on it.
How do you want your eggs??

I left this out of the first post....oops!!

These stoves are supposed to get hot on the top and sides. That is part of the selling point of these Harmon stoves. You not only get the convection heat from the blower, but get the radiant heat from the stove itself. You can put a pan of water on the stove for washing your dishes or extra humidity.
