from what i gather there does not have to be an R rating for the floor pad on the Isle Royale, so what materials do i need to use to build it ??

What kind of look are you going for? Slate or ceramic tile would typically need at least a layer of Durock screwed down ( if you current floor doesn't have much bounce to it) and then you could use thinset to bed the slate, let it set and then grout.

No bounce it good and I want to use tile

Sounds like you'll be in good shape then. Most local home improvement stores carry a pretty good selection of how-to books that can offer some good step by step instructions on doing tile work.

Good luck with the project and post up
Some pics when you finish!
