A friend had a new Bosch heat pump system installed last summer. Last weekend it failed to start. Imagine the tech's surprise when this turned out to be the problem.

Revenge of the Slugs!!! Ants and snakes stop quite a few down here.
 
Definitely a Pac NW issue. The tech said he's never seen anything like this. How it got in there is still a mystery.
 
I guess the heat pump is not dehumidifying very well
