My father has just installed a ground sourse heat pump and he is wondering how well it will work for heating his hot water. The guy who installed it told him there may be a problem with heating water in the summer when he is using the system for air conditioning. Many members of this site are from warmer climates and must use these systems for heating water while air conditioning. Is there someone who could give us information or direct us to a sourse of information on this topic?

It's called a desuperheater and is basically a small heat exchanger that cools the refrigerant after it leaves the compressor and before it goes to the condenser. It is basically like free hot water in the summer, but reduces your capacity in the winter. Many of the heat pumps have them as options, but will probably void your warranty if you try to add it now. Not sure why you would have a problem in the summer, unless you really don't need A/C much in Ontario?
