House : basement, main floor 1,100 sq ft with 8ft ceilings, upstairs 600 sq ft with 7ft ceiling in center tapered down to 4ft. Open floor plan on main floor. wood stove placement will be center of house. Open stairs and open upstairs so heat should rise easily. We want an efficient stove with a good burn time so we don’t have to restock it in the middle of the night. This will be the ONLY heat source. Something that won’t make the house smell smokey or be a dusty mess.

We got a quote for a BK King 40 w/ blower $5,300. I feel that’s super expensive.

We want something reliable.
Any help is appreciated! TIA.

The BK Princess, Chinook, or Sirocco 30 should easily do the job and be less expensive to install with its 6" flue requirement instead of the BK40's 8". There is a 30% tax credit on the stove and installation which caps at $2000. This may be why the boosted retail price.

An alternative in catalytic could be the Kuma Wood Classic or Ashwood.

+1 on princess and Kuma options. Can’t go wrong with either.

Is the Princess priced good at $4600? No pipes included but includes the dual blower.
Tbh haven’t priced the freestanding stoves but I’m pretty sure the insert version was about $3900 at a shop I was at a few weeks ago. Not positive. Not sure where I’m Indiana you are but If you don’t mind the drive, price out Cherry Valley Stoves in Andover,Oh. Seem to have competitive pricing on stoves.

This is the silly season now. Demand is high and some dealers will charge whatever they can.
