Hi i'm new here

Just wanted to post a hello so my account isn't removed, I had an account same name for over a year but since I didn't actually get a wood stove until 2 weeks ago I have done more reading than posting... and went to login today to introduce my stove and I guess it had been reset... only a few PM's lost so nothing too tragic!

Anyway Hi, I'm Tasha my husband works overseas while he was home the last two weeks we got a Drolet Baltic wood stove, in the living room..
Spent most of the 2 weeks messing with wood stacking and splitting...
I cleaned my chimney by myself this morning, disassembled the elbow and pipe inside then went outside. I have been told I need to do it once a month as i'm burning black spruce... so be it!!

Dirt, yes I had a bit of loose powder come down from the outside chimney, I mean not much but enough to know that I wasn't totally wasting my time, there was quite a bit on the inside pipes however considering it hasn't been very long installed... but i'm getting good fires so i'm not complaining.. I may just clean it every 2 weeks so I know I don't get in over my head.
I'm glad I found this forum I did all my research using it and didn't need to ask any questions as I found all my answers... really love the stove pipe thermometer and I got the fireproof glove incase I got to stick my hand in the fire... I feel ready for anything.. LOL

Welcome aboard Tasha. That looks like a nice setup. Good for you keeping it clean. How tall is the chimney?

Seasoned spruce should burn pretty cleanly. How long ago was the spruce split and stacked?

I too would be interested to know when that spruce was cut, split and stacked. Was it stacked outdoors? Wood covered?

Good for you for cleaning the chimney and it doesn't sound as if it were too bad. Not sure you will have to do it in 2 weeks though. Also, the reason for checking that chimney monthly has nothing to do with burning that spruce. We recommend it no matter what wood you are burning because almost every new wood burner thinks they have good wood but it turns out the wood is either marginal or worse. So don't worry about burning spruce as it should burn just fine. Just keep an eye on things so you know what is happening. Hopefully your husband can get home often as that has to be a trial being separated like that. We wish you good luck.

BeGreen the wood side of things has somewhat consumed me for a few months, I honestly thought I would end up with a stove and no wood.... Every one has green... where I live everyone burns wood, they all go get it themselves.. you can't legally sell wood on a regular permit etc etc,, but I did NOT need a tractor trailer load of green wood sooooo... (i do have the tractor trailer coming in May though hopefully be good for 2 years then)

Ended up trading a fridge freezer for some, put a notice up at the local shop.. lol... Someone else called and said they had two loads of dry wood... they said it was cut and made into small pieces last year but it had lots of ice, so i've had that lot in my basement with the dehumidifier running ... I don't know how great it is but I do know next year i'm totally ready,,
I have a shed that is the size of a garage half full with green and dry (ice on it) and a big pile of green I still have to deal with.... and getting more in May...

So next year and the year after I should be ready and my wood should be as good as it can be for Black Spruce....

HA! Yeah that white paper that comes in the box is usually the "instructions." :bug:

That paper usually does not even get glanced at when Mr Gamma gets something new....it gets left in the box.

I guess he prefers a "challenge"...then when he starts speaking in foreign tongues....I give him the instructions....and tell him...
"told ya that ya shoulda read those instructions!" >:-(

Aww, shoot. I used that white paper thingy to light my first fire. :cheese:

Then I shut down the air too fast and smothered it. hh:
