OMG We were going to run our St Croix on smart stat mode but I forgot just how long it takes to shut down. I think it takes like an hour is this normal? by the time the stove would shut down the house would cool down enough and the thing would prob. kick right back on ughhh.

In smart stat mode the stove goes into a low state for an hour. If no heat is called for within the hour the stove will shut down completely.

So yes, this is normal.

If it worked so it shut off in 10 minutes you would be going through an ignitor every year with all the on and off cycles. The long interval is meant for a reason.

The only way to shut it off quicker is to push the on/off button on the stove's control panel.

......... and then the fan will run until the stove is cold, about another hour for my Revolution ...................

Not quite that long in my St Croix but yes.

When I shut my Afton Bay down, I wait until there are no embers in the pot, then flip the switch that I installed to kill the fans. That way I'm not blowing heat outside, and the heat in the stove finds its way into the room. Also, I get instant quiet.
I just have to remember to flip the switch so the blowers run again.
