How to fix a "freezing" wife this winter?

Post only partially in jest - the wife vetoed the idea of a freestanding stove in the living room back in October but, now in January, complains regularly of "freezing" when the insert we installed dips down into the mid-60s on a cold night like tonight at the coaling stage.

What's the best way y'all have learned to manage a squeaky spouse (wives and husbands here folks, it's 2015 after all)?
 
Easy.

1) Turn the central heating on.

2) Tell her "I told you so".

3) Dissapear into the man cave.

4) Lite stove in man cave and get drunk.

5) Get real drunk, real quick.

6) Make sure chainsaw will start.

About 10 of my favorite flannel shirts still fit me great, except the sleeves shrank to 3/4 of their origonal length. She teased me everytime I wore one of them, so she inherited them and I got new ones for xmas. No more teasing, no more chilly chick. Win - win. ;lol
 
Move her to the USVI, 78-88 year round, that's what I am doing. No heat, no cooling.

I tried buying her one of those union suits once. It didn't go over too well. I haven't seen it in a while. I don't even want to ask about it.

I've walked into a room that's 90F (literally, that's what the thermometer on the wall said) and she was under a blanket. I think it was to keep the heat off of her.

I've found insulating the walls works the best. It made the house much more comfortable. My wife still wears a robe around the house though. Whatever makes her happy...

Maybe an electric blanket for the couch would be a way to keep the peace?

i would say it sounds like her thermostat is broken, you could consider replacing her. But then you would have to find somewhere new to live. I would suggest Rossco, he sounds like my type of guy...

My wife had a pair. We laughed to death when she'd put them on. But think about it: this is what we put on newborns. What's good for them is good for us!

I love the idea of a onesy with the feet sewn right in it. I got in trouble just a few days ago by noticing my wife had put on slippers to go with her outfit. A onesy might have saved me.

I have one of those - unfortunately, it's not just to play in the sunshine. I'm heading there for surgery through the Norman Parathyroid Center at Tampa General. I have hyperparathyroidism - parathyroids control calcium levels with the assistance of Vitamin D. When they go loopey and produce too much hormone, they kidneys get told to keep the calcium and dump the phosphorous. Besides muscle cramps, fatigue, joint and bone pain and other generally lousy symptoms, I have chronically low body temperature (35s Celsius) even though the endocrinologist said I was technically to high for thyroxine levels and temps should be over normal of 37 C. The reason for the low body temps is that loss of phosphorus that is the "P" in ATP - your body's fuel. The labs read: low vitamin D, low end of "normal" phosphorus, high end of "normal" calcium, and inappropriate PTH in relation to the calcium.

So, if your honey is cold, 1kz and I have given you some reasons as to possibly why....

Feed her.
When mine gained 40 lbs the whining about the cold stopped. Much cheaper to keep the shack at 65 than 70.
 
Sometimes "I told you so" is good medicine. I insisted on installing the kitchen queen this fall and my wife didn't like the idea, but she is all for it now.
Send her out to do something and swap it out. Or just tell her you are putting in a better stove. Inserts are not for heat. A real stove will put out 100,000 btus or more. 200,000 is even better for warming up a cold house.
 
At least one fleece blanket at every chair or sofa.

I finally got around to installing a ceiling fan in my fireplace room and holy crap what a difference. Keeps the rest of the first floor nice and even. Before that, the cooling down of the insert was very noticeable, and now it acts more "like" a free standing.

Earplugs.

If you think she's squeaky now, try that "I told you so" advice above.

Maybe ask her if she has though much about a free standing stove. Keep it simple. She may be hesitant to bring it up. I bet she wants it now.

The art of spousal diplomacy comes into play now, and it's very important.

The wrong way. "See I told you it wasn't big enough to heat this place, shoulda listened to me." This is wrong, resulting in her making you miserable. And not getting a free standing stove.

The right way " Gee, I thought this little guy would throw enough heat, but I guess I was wrong. And here you are being cold. What's your thoughts on a free stander? I've read they throw much more heat."

Sometimes you have to lose a battle to win the war.;)

Just do what I do. Take a day off from work while shes at work and get the job done while shes at work. Wife always loves to come home to a suprise. In your case a free stander.
Mine has come home from work to find such things as a stone koi pond in the livingroom with waterfall, the entire bathroom in a dumpster on the front lawn (while i built a new one) the pellet stove installed and running and many more!
