Huskee 22 ton splitter

I thought I would let the owners of the above splitter know what happened to me today. I had my splitter outside where it always is and got it started with a few pulls and extra priming of the carb. It ran a bit rough with it being so cold, so I let it idle for a bit to let it warm up.

I notice the engine was vibrating and moving around. I looked at the bolts that hold the engine to the mount for the pump. There were at least 2 loose where I could see them move around. I got the right socket and got down on the ground to tighten them up. Easier said than done in the cold.

Started splitting some red oak and next thing I see is the beam slide over to the left and found the pivot pin had come out and the keeper cotter pin had fallen out on the ground. So got it lined back up and took a piece of wood and pounded the pin back in and put the keeper pin back in the slot.

Dont know if the cold had anything to do with this, but thought it might be a good thing to keep and eye on.:roll:

had the pivot pin fall out on mine too and the pin that holds it from going vertical the nut came off the bottom I'll have to check the engine block blots next

I've done about 20 cord with a fair amount of towing this last season. Time to go over the whole thing with a wrench, thanks for the heads up.

I borrowed the 35 ton Huskee from my buddy for about two weeks. Ran 6 tanks of gas through it and Finished 2 cord last night. Noticed there was hydraulic fluid seeping out of the storage tank on top of the axle. I put about 3 full turns on that plug. Must have just vibrated loose? There's another nut to check on the Huskee. What a machine though!! holy cow.

There's a breather hole on that fill plug, make sure when it's snug that the hole faces away from the operator (hole pointing away from the machine).

The fill plug on my MTD is near the left tire and as the oil heats up and expands, it will seep out the vent if the left tire is in a low spot. I often put a piece of wood under the left tire to make sure it is higher than the other side.

These small engine yard tools vibrate so much anytime I find a loose fastener I tighten them back up with locktite. It really helps prevent the fastners from loosening. I just had the coupling on my splitter back out because the set screw loosened up and went away. New set screw and locktite and I am back in business.
