Is this the combustion fan or the room fan making the noise? edited video

Here is a video of the sound it's making. I kind of need to let my guy know which one I think it is so he can get the part before he comes. (he doesn't keep alot of stuff in stock) What do you all think??

If it comes on right away when stove starts, it is the combustion fan. If it does it later, it is the convection fan. kap

Kappel15 really???? then it's the convection (room fan????). It only does it after the stove has been running for a while and it's intermittent.

That is usually how you can tell as the combustion fan comes on right away when the stove calls for heat, and the convection fan comes on when the stove gets hot enough and needs to blow hot air into the room. Now remember I said usually, as I wouldn't think the combustion fan would run all that time without making a noise, just to act up after the convection fan comes on. And I would make sure it is not just a vibration noise from something loose either. kap

I can hear the video just fine... Sounds like either a dry bearing or harmonics. I'd be checking to makes sure everything is tight first, the pursue the RA fan bearings (possibly a shot of oil) and it if stops, order a new one just in case.

If it turns out to be the bearings on the motor, keep the old fan for a spare and have it rebuilt at an electric motor shop as long as the price is reasonable

If not (reasonable to have rebuilt by an electric motor shop) do it yourself if you are handy. Beraings can be sourced at Grainger and are easy to replace.

My room fan was making the same noise, removed it, compressed air in the windings,oil in the bearings, good as new.

Why not send the video to the tech? Plus, I'd guess it's the room fan, I have no idea what my combustion fan sounds like, it should be silent compared to the augur and room fan.

Most whining noise from mine is always the combustion blower. It is on the 3rd. They are not rebuildable. I did that the first time mine went bad. Bought a new one and took the other to the Motor shop. I would let it cool off completely and spin it by hand to see how free it is spinning. Make sure you get the right replacement that has rubber isolators on the feet. If you don't you shall find out that whining noise you hear now is mild compared to the rattling noises and harmonic vibrations you will get from one with no isolators. You could try a couple drops of oil on the top bearing. I got a couple extra months out of mine doing that.

Well, we put a new room fan in and it's still making the noise. It doesn't happen at start up, only happens after the stove has been running a while.. I guess we replace the other one now.. Is there anything else that could be making this noise???

Could it be the auger when it's feeding pellets? Have heard YouTube videos of some loud auger harmonics. But it does sound like a blower fan to me.

It is time to do some serious hunting to pinpoint and find the noise. Best way is have someone that knows what they are doing start unplugging things when it starts making the noise. Could still be the conv. fan if not installed right. Could be vibrating on stove. If it is the exhaust fan, you might be able to remove and clean it. Then lube it with a little 3 in 1 oil. Just need a new gasket for the install. kap

You can make a homemade stethoscope using some garden hose to pin point the noise. Just like the mechanic here:

Thanks to this forum we figured it was the Versa Grate Shaft... Needed to be lubed! It is not making the sound anymore.. He showed me what to do if it started happening again but told me I needed to get high heat oil... What do you guy's but for your stoves and where do you get it?
