John Deere/Didier splitter.

Trying to find a seal kit to fix a leak. Past couple years I have seen some posts about these splitters, but can't find any info if anybody rebuilt the piston themselves. My splitter is a JD from the mid eighties. 4 inch cylinder with a 2 inch ram. Four bolts on the front with a lock ring holding the wiper in. Would rather do it myself and save a few bucks.

I had to replace the seal on my didier splitter last year, and surprisingly had no problem finding a replacement. I just went to a local store called hydro supply and the old cranky man measured them up and gave me new. Do you have a hydraulic repair business around you, could be a start?

Yep - I would start at your local hydro store. As a matter of fact - I would get a quote to do the job. You might be surprised. AND - if there are any issues trying to get the darn thing apart, they have the stuff right there to get it done.

I am a DIY guy myself - but sometimes it just don't pay.

Open it up and find your local hydraulic supplier. Bring the parts that need replaced to them. Its not rocket science.
After you do it once its easy.

Thanks for the info. Just didn't want to drive the 30 miles to a shop. I have rebuilt a couple rams for excavators and such. Figured I would order them online and do it myself.

Do an equipment search for " splitter" . The sectional index works best. Web search the part # you need chances are it'll be out there. Or just call you're local JD dealer and have them ship you the parts.
