I have a couple 30 or so inch red oaks to take care of. The only logical solution I could think of was to buy another saw! Got a John Deere 80EV with a 24 inch bar. So here are my questions. 1. I try and avoid all that annoying smoke with all my 2stroke equipment by running good synthetic oil and as such a lighter mix or oil to gas - what is the consensus on good synthetic and what ratio will be safe on this old saw? Will 50:1 and Stihl silver bottle be ok? How about 70 or 100:1?

2. Any plug recommendations? I usually like going one heat range hotter for faster starts. Does anyone know what factory plug it takes so I can cross and find a range hotter one?

The specs say 50:1 with ECHO oil otherwise 32:1. The improvements in off the shelf oil over the last many years would have me running 50:1 in that saw. 40:1 if you feel the need.

I don't think I would mess with a hotter plug. If it was warranted the MFG would have stuck it in there from the factory.

Now that I see 70's tech supports 50:1, I am confident running 50:1 of full synthetic will eliminate most of the smoking.

I've had amazing luck going one heat range hotter on plugs on 2strokes but it has to be done with some understanding that its not something you always do. The factory has to put a plug in there for all climates. In my more mild east coast climate the one range hotter plug has been good. In this case I will run the stock plug for the time being and unless there is a starting issue or I get the feeling there is more left at the top end, it will keep the stock plug.
