Kodiak Info?

I searched and wasn’t able to find much on this specific model. Anybody know anything about it? Measurements would be nice. It’s been “converted” into an insert, but was originally a free standing stove per the owner. It’s cheap, and might make a good addition to our small rock cabin.
I’ll cut the box off and go back to a free standing stove if I can. Thanks for any help with ID!

Looks like a Kodiak insert to me they are really common in this area. They are inefficient but very durable stoves. You will need 36" clearance to combustibles all around it.

Thanks for the reply! The guy says that used to be freestanding and was converted to be an insert. I’m curious what the dimensions are. This is going in a rock/concrete cabin and I wanna make sure it will pump out enough to eat and it’s not too small.

Our current set up is an open fireplace with a huge flu. 98% of our heat go straight up and out. Or anything will be an improvement for sure! I have searched high and low on the Internet and have not been able to find much information on this specific model.

I guess it could have been converted but I doubt it. There isnt much info needed on it. It's a big old steel box some had baffles in them. I would guess that one does. But it's a welded baffle on most which can lead to cracks on the sides. And the glass will always be dirty so kind of pointless

Here’s a couple more photos. If it is indeed a freestanding stove inside, I plan to cut the insert off and refurbish the stove. Just waiting for the guy to send me more photos and measurements. Thanks again for any information!

Looks fairly clean for $300. Wish me luck with my project. Warmer days are ahead at the Cabin. I hope to have a free standing stove, a few new bricks, and some cleaner glass in the near future.

I purchased a fire place insert somewhat similar to this one but different make. I was able to buy it for $35.00 as I wanted it for the glass on the doors and the metal for other projects. It is not all that easy to cut apart as the outside box is welded to the flue and the bottom may be a problem. The points about the glass on the door is this older woodstove may not have an air wash system to keep the the class window clean. These older stove inserts are not as well designed as the newer ones. Hope your project goes well for ya.

That threaded rod as spacers doesn't look right so maybe it was converted. It seems like a lot of work to modify it back though couldn't you find a free stander? The price was fair not great but not bad either.

Kodiak freestanding stoves had a step top. Everything looks like the original Insert. They would have had to cut the sides shorter in the back, and replaced the entire top. It looks factory. The surround faceplate is also stock for an Insert. The only thing added was the threaded rod. (They had predrilled holes there) The leg length is correct for the Insert as well.

The bottom was raised to that height for a blower duct.

Early Inserts with double doors had a square back. Later were angled to fit more fireplaces.
