Let’s hear why everyone loves their wood-burning stoves and wood heat !

I seem to like everything about it other than the cleaning/ chimney cleaning...
I like the forest, chainsaws, Axes/ maul, ATV/UTV, hanging out with the dog, getting away from the wife, the workout, and the warm reward of a house that's 10° warmer than room temperature if I wish.
Hopefully at the end of it it is a bit/ bunch cheaper than other heating alternatives.

I didn't get back into burning wood for the cost savings. Between the chimney (this house had no chimney when we moved in) and the new stove, I figured it would take 7 years to pay for itself. That is too long of a payback for me to consider it a good investment.

When I was a kid we burned wood, and I hated everything about it except when the fire was going was the only time my mom would let our house actually be warm in the winter.

I spent 7-9 years living in a crummy old rental where wood was my only source. I think it was after the first winter there that the oil furnace was never fired again. Anyway, that was done to survive so I could pay for college (as an older student) while working full time. It was not always fun, then. I did enjoy splitting and I loved having a warm house, once it got warmed up.

After college, I bought a small efficient house and lived there without a wood stove for 4 or 5 years. Then, when "I" became "we" and we started looking for a house, I did not have many requirements for the house we bought. I wanted a big garage and a place to put a wood stove.

Now, it is a luxury, a hobby, and something I could stop doing if I wanted to. I can pick and choose the wood I scrounge or wait for a tree service to have some wood that they want to drop here for free. If I have the flu, the other half of the "we" can feed the fire.

I still enjoy splitting most of my wood by hand, but now I also have a splitter. I have the luxury of being able to set the real nasty crotch pieces aside and fire up the splitter once or twice per year to finish those.

Stacking is probably my least favorite part of it.... but now I have a helper so it goes twice as fast.

Now I get to do the fun parts but have the luxury of minimizing the less fun parts.

Honestly same as all the above, and all of it.

I love sitting next to the stove in the morning while tending and with a fresh hot cup of joe.
I prefer to heat with wood so much, I go through the huge process of feeding the dragon down in it's lair.

I'm looking forwards to running my mighty Moe again, and finishing my "4 stove plan.'' I have a thread on that somewhere. Even though I also have plans for an OWB and hydronic from forced air conversion, I'm all for the 4 stove plan for shoulder seasons and "heat boosts" when wanted.

Now @Itslay90
Hows you?
