I’m working on specifying the gas fireplace for our new construction living room and have fallen impressed with online research about the Mendota product line. I’m landing on an FV42 size, but am wondering how to evaluate the FV42 classic vs the FV42 firein model.
The big differences I see are:
- Classic has better efficiency (75% vs 70%)
- Firein has better turndown (10k BTU vs 18.6k BTU)
- Classic has dual manifold, shut down rear flame
Other than that, they are identical in size, shape, capacity, clearances.
Is the Firein using a stepper gas valve to accomplish the higher turndown?
I haven’t seen either in person, so honestly, between the two pictures and videos, it seems like the Firein could allow me to use it more during the shoulder seasons. Not sure what I’d be giving up vs the Classic.
Thanks!
