Question:

We recently built a home and had a Mendota model DXV-42N gas direct vent fireplace installed. The heating company service technician does not know how to service the unit. His answer is "Well, it should work. Give it some time for the dust to to settle." The flame extinguishes within 2 minutes after the glass front is replaced. The manual has been followed to the letter

Answer:

This is amazing that the selling dealer is not helping you to get the unit working. It sounds like the chimney is installed improperly and is not drafting. You should call or email the people at Mendota immediately: http://mendotahearth.com/
