Mt Vernon AE Pellet Stove Failure

I woke up at 4am to the smell of burning wires, we searched everywhere and found nothing, later noticed our hearth & Home Mt Vernon AE pellet stove would not work. The wire going into the control box literally fried and burned a hole into the control box. This is a huge safety issue, could have caused a fire. I have seen posts before that this is a safety issue with the stove that is fixed when the control box and harness are replaced and that Hearth and Home has been standing behind this and giving the control box and harness to their customers. I contacted our local dealer and he does not know anything about it. I contacted hearth and home direct and they say to go to the dealer and file a warranty claim. Yet there is no warranty. But I have seen several others post that they got theirs replaced by the company and that was after the warranty was gone. Any ideas on this. the control box alone is 580.00

I’ve heard people talk about this but haven’t run into it personally. We only started carrying Quadrafire about 6 years ago so the issue may predate the versions we handed. Usually when I see a major short like that it’s a power surge situation, although I have also seen spiders and wasps ground themselves out and fry the power supply or board. Did you have any power surges or thunderstorms in your area recently?

I talked to the factory guys and they said they had never heard of anything like that. I’d say the story probably originated from a dealer who just did an in store warranty to take care of someone to keep them happy and it was never a factory warranty deal.

if the factory told you to file a warranty claim then file one. you have nothing to loose and everything to gain

I wouldn't get my hopes up. But they have had electrical issues before maybe they will do the right thing by you.

I posted a long time ago about watching the white molex connectors on the power feed wire from power supply to control board. If they start turning brown, it is time to replace them. Have had this happen to a couple of customers. kap

Hardly a warranty type issue though unless it happened in the first couple years. We only started carrying the AE about 6 years ago so maybe that’s why I haven’t seen one of those go bad. I do have that harness on my service van though.

Ya those things are crazy high.

Have you seen the prices for the tc parts though! They’re even higher. Still wondering how the touch screen will fair there with all that pellet dust.
