I really want to get the Napoleon 1402. My folks have had similar model for 10 years and love it. Seems like it really cranks out the heat. My problem is the lintel. The height is not great. It's 22 3/4" and the minimum for the 1402 is 22". So I got a little wiggle room. The height of the insert is really 20" so there is 2 3/4" gap. The real issue is the depth (or thickness) of the lintel. It is 4 3/4" thick. So basically the 6" flue opening is 1" under the lintel. It will be very tight and I will need to use the low clearance connector. EPA335KT.

Does anybody have dimensions of the part? I tried looking online and could not find anything.

I'm wondering if the connector will have enough room as it slopes up. It seems like it would but just barely. Attached is PDF showing the layout.

Thanks.

I don't have the specs, but can see how this could be a squeaker. If this solution doesn't work out for you, there are very good inserts in this size that have the flue collar set further back. A couple examples would be the Regency 2400i and the PE Pacific insert.

Thanks for the suggestions on the PE and Regency i2400.

It got me thinking about different options. It looks like I will probably go with the Enviro Kodiak 1700. The Regency was nice but on the pricier side, and the Enviro seems like it is solidly built and has a large firebox compared with the Napoleon or Regency.

The prices I was seeing all-in (including the unit, all basic black trim, 20ft liner, install and tax)

Regency i2400 = $3800
Napoleon 1402 = $3200
Enviro 1700 = $3100

I liked the regency but $700 is a decent difference.

Sounds good. Just for reference, the PE Pacific Super sells for just under $1900 out here. I would expect it to come in a bit under $2400 on the east coast.

I finally got some specs on this part. This will come off the top of the unit at a 30 degree angle instead of straight up. The piece alone sticks up 4-1/2" total at its high point.

I have a similar connector on my 1101. It adds about 2 1/2" to the height. I was shopping for the 1402 recently and found the best price at http://www.dynamitebuys.com/store/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=885.

I swear I'm not a salesman for them. I just bought the Osburn 2400 insert. It hasn't arrived yet, but I've found them to be the easiest to deal with and the lowest price on both the Osburn and the Napoleon.

Good luck!
