hello, i just picked up a harman advance on craigslist for a good price, it needs a side cover, and the cover that goes over the auger motor, the glass lid for the hopper, and i was told an igniter.
is there anyway i can test the auger motor as is? i just want to make sure its all working before i order parts.
also is anyone here from NH? what codes do i need to be aware of before i install this? im going to get the hearth i know i need that.

To test the auger motor, carefully jump power to it.

Codes vary by town. go to your city hall and get a building permit and information. Generally, they follow approved manual clearance specs, or stricter in some cases, so make sure you get a manual and read it 4 times before you cut anything.

Plug it in and turn the feed rate knob to the white shaded area that says test and you'll see all of the components, except for the igniter. To test the igniter unplug the leads and use a multimeter on resistance or check the ohms you should get 37.5

If the lid was gone the odds are in favor of a obstruction in the auger tube-flight but with all the other parts gone you have a good sized project. The motor is not all that difficult to remove that it is not installed. The tricky part will be all the other feed mechanisms. Get up on a bench where it will be easy to work on and take pictures to help guide you when you reassemble. Good luck and Welcome.

I don't know the Advance very well but many pellet stoves won't turn on the auger with the lid open. The lid missing is obviously the same thing. It may be that an older Advance doesn't have this safety feature. Maybe someone in the know can fill you in on that.

If the hopper lid is missing then the air flow switch won't close cause if I remember right it's located in the hopper via the little yellow carbon filter cap that everyone always tries to remove and clean... Don't remove that cap damn it! Jump the air flow switch wires and run test again and it should turn

got the glass lid installed, pulled the auger out and cleaned out the feed tube, i can not turn the feed motor by hand. in my experience, electric motors still turn by hand unless they are bad. so im thinking the feed motor is bad. does that sound right?

Us a lamp cord to test the motor, with all the gear reduction it can be vary difficult to turn the motors output shaft, the lamp cord test is pretty much definitive.

starting to get frustrated, just want this thing to work
ordered the knob for the glass it came with a screw and thats it, i had already ordered the latch looking at the diagram there are no other parts
here it is with the screw fully tightened

so i tried a shorter screw i had lying around and the latch hits the lip and doesnt line up with latch at all

i should mention i think this glass fits like crap, the edge hits the stove when you open it. when i had the screws tight on the glass it wouldnt close all the way because it was hitting the stove on the hinge end. i loosened it and shut it and tried to tighten the screws so it wouldnt hit but it still does.

Is there supposed to be a gasket for the glass to rest on? Maybe it is there, I see for cr*p Also, again not knowing anything about that stove, or seeing well, is the hinge for the glass on properly?

I'm looking at the pictures(broken link removed to http://hearthnhome.com/downloads/brochures/Advance.pdf), and your setup doesn't look quite the same is why I am asking those questions.

I almost went and looked at that stove (I'm in NH also) but found a different Advance. Here's a picture of my latch if that helps. looks like the wrong screw.

is there anyone here from NH that knows the rules for venting. i cant really seem to find anything online and the place that was going to install my stove just informed me they cant because they wont put a vent through concrete.
i have friends that can help me, and i know i need a permit and inspection. i would just like to know how far i need to be off the ground and away from other windows

Core drill Need to figure out your total EVL. If it is over 15, you'll need to look at 4" exhaust.

Venting starts on page 13, page 19 for clearances. Clearances to windows and doors can be reduced if OAK installed but it will take a bit more planning when going through concrete.
