Well I finally got done with my install. My first pellet stove and my first install of any kind of stove/pipe. I hope I did it all correctly! I had it running for about 2 hours last night for the first time and I got a pretty strong odor from it. Is that normal/will that go away? Did I do something wrong during install. Here are some pics;

Your pipe etc looks very good. The smell if its like oil or plastic that's a normal break in odor. That's why many do a outside firing or two to drive off those new odors. If its like wood smoke than you have a venting leak
Would recommend a UPS or at the least a good surge protector tohelp protect the sensitive control board that's over $220

how can I tell where the venting leak would be coming from? I don't see any smoke. ill try again when i get home

New stoves smell
It is the heat curing of the paint and
the machining oil being forced to leave
by being heated enough to gas off .
This will happen for the first few fires
Only if you smell smoke is there a leak
in your pipes . The way to find it is in the
dark with a flash light run the light up
and down the pipe when starting but
before flame shows If there is a leak you
will see it
Nice install don't forget a surge protector

thanks a lot guys...I am looking for a good surge protector right now...any suggestions? I will check later to see if there is any smoke during lighting. Will it smoke after lighting as well?

The most smoke in exhaust is on start up. The new stove smell/smoke from exterior should go away. Looks nice

The smell will go away after a few burns. This is my first year with a stove too and ours stunk the first maybe 2-3 times we used it. It's kicking right now and there is no odor at all.

Make sure you get a good CO detector for the room the stove is in.

The clean out and the crosses at the T are the most likely to be leaking along with the 90* elbow. I just wrap mine with high temp silicone tape as a matter of course (they make black so it won't be real noticeable).

However, if it is a new install, a lot of the smell was paint curing as everyone else has pointed out.

I checked last night and I had some smoke at start up at the bottom of the clean out T and at the clean out T where it attaches to the 3-4 increaser. Should I silicone them too?

I would use silicone tape on the bottom of the clean out T. Wrap a piece around the circumference, then stretch short pieces along the flat (attaching the ends to the circumference piece) , then wrap another piece along the circumference so it secures the ends of the short pieces.



It is very easy to remove when you need to get the clean out apart. The other I would just use tape too as that is the most likely place you would be taking it apart. But, you can use silicone in either/both places.

Home Depot stocks it. There are tons of it on eBay, where I got mine.

HD carries Stretch & Seal by Nashua (you'll find it in the tape aisle - not the heating supplies). Your local hardware store may carry it (or a similar product). Walmart carries Duck Wrap Fix and Amazon carries a whole host of silicone tapes such as Xtreme tape.

I added more silicone to the T last night. I'm giving it 24 hours to test it. That should give it plenty of time to cure up. I'm going to look today for some silicone tape as well.

Just order some duct wrap fix from walmart. I'll give it a shot for 5 bucks

I sealed everything up last night on the T with the silicone duct tape from Wally world. No leaks what so ever at this point in time. To bad the temp is in the 60's here now I can't test it again. Thanks for all the help guys!
