I've run the inlet air into my stove through the ash pit in my fireplace - the stove fits right over it. Air comes straight up from the basement, then exits straight up the chimney. My basement is leakier to the outside than the upstairs, so there is plenty of air for combustion and it won't pull from the heated living area. Plus, I want it cooler down there as I store garden crops there over the winter. The only other combustion air appliance I have is the oil boiler, and that is generally off when the woodstove is burning, so no issues with negative pressure.
