Hello,
I have a Quadra-Fire Outfitter II that I am having an issue with. I noticed this year and last that I have been needing to clean out the pot more often than I think I should. The first year I used it, I cleaned the pit completely every 2-3 bags, but recently I have had to clean the pot every day. It is on a thermostat and does not run all day consistently, and I use about a bag every other day. I made an adjustment about a month ago on the flame height and dropped it to the -2 setting so that I would feed less, and therefore get better efficient burning of the pellets that it feeds and this has helped! I feel that I get less ash buildup in the pot, and have to clean it less often while the pellet stove seems to run for more hours.
However, this morning I woke up to the pellet stove being on, but the house being 4 degrees below temp, which never happens. I looked at the pot and the flame was almost gone. The heat being blown into the room was not hot, but just warm. What is happening is that the stove waits for the flame to be almost extinguished before calling for a round of feed. It even shut down as I was looking at it with the red light signaling the "Empty hopper alarm" which means the pot is low on fuel. To test my theory, I allowed it to shut down, then put a handful of pellets in the pot and started it back up. It started up fine, no issue with the auger or ignition, had a healthy flame, but did NOT call for pellets until after about 3 minutes of lighting. The flame was nearly extinguished before calling for pellets again. I adjusted my flame height back up to normal factory setting and nothing changed. Any thoughts would be helpful!
