Been researching this site since late 2009 and finally purchased and installed the PE Summit. Only previous experience with wood burning was loading my in-laws wood furnace a few times. Planned on just prepping the fireplace and chimney for the installer but due to delays in his schedule, I ended up doing the install myself. Thanks to all the posts and forum members. The information contained on this site is incredible. There wasn't a question or issue I came across that wasn't answered here in one way or another. the existing fire brick were loose or falling out so I had to begin by doing a little patchwork. For the Liner I went with Homesaver Roundflex . I had a 16' run to the top where I used a hinged chimney cap / top plate. Modified it slightly with a heavier gauge steel plate that came with the Roundflex. Initially wanted to use a rigid liner for extra strength but a slight bend near the damper area made flex a requirement. However, I was pleasantly surprised on how strong / thick the HS Roundflex liner was. Was a bit tricky getting it down the chimney and especially securing it to the insert, but that was likely due to having no experience and not having any help except for my wife. Used 1/2" insulation blanket around the liner and above the bottom plate. Bottom plate was fabricated out of SS and a separate 8 inch duct collar to give me a little play when dropping the liner down through. Had to build up the floor of the fireplace with cement board and then covered it with a piece of stainless. Placed a wire screen over the cleanout since I will be using the outside air option.
