Pellet feeding problem, Quad 1200

I have a Quadra-Fire Classic Bay 1200. No problems with it until recently. I did not notice a smoke odor coming from the stove for 4 years. This year I noticed a slight odor coming from it but the stove worked fine.

Yesterday the auger motor stopped working. I checked for jams and did not find one. I cleaned all aspects of the stove and still didn't work. I also cleaned the vacuum switch tube. It did not work.

I "jumped" the vacuum switch and the auger motor works but pellets do not drop. I checked the door gasket seal and it seems to be fine. Any ideas?

If the auger motor is working and not dropping, something must be plugging the auger or drop tube or auger to motor connector is bad. Empty the hopper and see if the auger is working or get a mirror and look up the drop tube

I looked up the tube with a mirror and did not see anything. I did not see any jam from the hopper side either.

I "jumped" snap disk 2 and now the stove is working. So I have the vacuum switch and the snap 2 disk "jumped". Do I need a new snap disk 2?

I would if I were you I would PM "kappel" as he is a Quad tech and knows the electrical mechanics of the Quad line.

Snap Disc #2 (Thermostat Override) 200°F

Snap disc #2 is also located on the right side of the appliance
between snap disc #1 and convection blower. There are 2
yellow wires connected to it. This snap disc will turn off the
feed system, which will turn off the appliance if an overfire
condition should occur or if the convection blower should fail.

Now if that snap disc fails and isn't a manual reset unit it is likely toast.

It is supposed to be an auto reset switch IIRC, but please note something caused it to go snap and open in the first place. It is a safety that stops overfiring of the stove. This may be due to an imporper setting of the flame height or the convection blower isn't quite removing the heat from the system and dunping it into the room.

Check the wire connectors to the snap disc. I had problems and while replacing disc #2 realized that the spade connectors were loose.

Try checking the set screw that connects the auger motor to the auger and make sure it is not loose. This will cause pure hell with some one as it did me trying to figure out why I was having intermittent problems. The auger would sometime slip on the shaft. Please keep in mind that there are two set screws. One that holds a spacer color in place and one that connects the auger to the motor shaft.

Are you using a different brand pellets that might be extra long? They could bridge at the bottom of the hopper and cause it to not feed. When you cleaned the vac tube out, did you also push a stiff wire thru the nipple on the drop tube that the hose connects to, to make sure it wasn't plugged ? When was the last time the entire exhaust system was cleaned? Thru stove and pipes? kap
