I was reading through the Timber Biomass Portal and came upon the pellet category area which talks about the new PFI standards and manufacturer participation. I hope the link works since it's a great resourse site just to look at on a regular basis. You can also visit the PFI website directily and learn more about the new stardards that are being implemented. I did notice not many manufacturers have adopted the new standard yet. It should be interesting to see who will make the cut and who won't.

That's good to see. In the past you did not need to be a member in order to use the PFI label, which made it a joke.

This is still very vague, What are the new standards? And how will it help match the pellets to my appliance?

Anyway if you check the link there are still fees involved. Nonmembers fees are double the members fees. Sure the non members will like that. Going to make them all member's more likely.

There standards are still self audited by the mill. Self policed I should say. Still think we will see the label being abused by some. Out of spec pellets hitting the open market for the consumer to police. Which I do anyway and even if there was a total change in PFI's thinking. I still will police my own purchase's. This way I can only blame "me" for a purchased product that isn't in spec.

Old thread and this may be old news but I couldn't find anything.

Here is some more info on the deal that is interesting. Appears that they had to start adhering to the new standards by this summer with a uniform label on every bag.
