Pellet stove about to become just a hobby

Having a heat pump and high efficiency furnace installed today. Looking forward to being able to watch tv without listening to a blower motor and it'll be nice having the house with a steady temperature throughout. Plus I can toss all the helper fans in the trash. May still light up the Harman on snowy nights just for a little ambiance or on extremely cold nights, but besides that I am not going to miss tending to this thing.

We only run our stove now when its below 5F or so for extended periods when our heat pump falls behind. My heat pump is considerably cheaper and more comfortable.

I have the same problem in our new house. In the old house, it was all wood and pellets for heat because we had baseboard, in the new house, it's a brand new high efficiency heat pump. My electrical bill hasn't topped 90 bucks a month yet, even when the AC ran all summer.

We have a propane fireplace downstairs in the finished basement for warmth because it stays a little cooler then the rest of the house. I hate burning propane, but, it's super cheap right now.

I miss my pellet stove! But, it's just too expensive comparatively

Well, to each his own.

We installed the bare minimum (Read this as the cheapest thing available) to get the inspector off my back as far as a central heat system goes.
Then we installed a very good AC system.

The best part is the magnificent pellet stoves that we feed nut shells to.

Heating a 2400 Sq ft ranch for under $100 per YEAR

I don't mind the slight amount of work involved as compared to the tiny amount of cash outlay.

Enjoy your new system.

Have you thought about a ground coil ???

These will allow the Heat pump to work even in very cold weather.

Oh, I am not leaving here. Lots of good folks to chat with. I am however picking up a new hobby to fill the extra time I will have on my hands. I bought a new smoker and am gonna be smoking pigs instead of being a pellet pig.

It's a Bryant 15 Seer Pump and Bryant Coil. Along with a Bryant 96 AFUE Propane Furnace. My brother is in the HVAC business, as well as my neighbors in my office park, both of whom have access to any line they want. Both talked me out of other brands I was initially looking at like Lennox.

I filled my 1000gal propane tank this summer for .98 a gal. I still went out a bought a few tons of Somersets @ 250 a ton. I just flat out like to run my stove.

I agree, but house has existing ductwork and a few other variables that lead to my decision.

To each their own, I guess. If I could get propane for 98 cents a gallon I'd get a tank the size of the Goodyear blimp and fill that baby to the brim.

Midwest MO winter propane is currently $1.20@gal I'll pre buy some at that price for sure.

To me heat pump air out the vent was 70*...Back up NG furnace would kick on at outside temp of 15*-20* or so....then the heat coming out of the vent was more like 90.

NG/Propane furnace heat is just hotter coming out the vent then Heat pump air.......You stand on the vent after being out in the snow, and it feels like the AC is on.

Current home doesn't have a HP, Just Propane heat, and of course pellet stove.

That's great, but It doesn't really get cold there, I compare you to living in England

Going from window units to Central Air is the same as upgrading from a pot belly stove to a forced air furnace. You will love the heat pump I'm sure that the economy of it will win you over.. We heat the shoulder seasons for about a dollar a day, 1960 ish house with 1300 sq ft.
We still use the pellet stove in the evenings because we like to watch the fire and like the heat in the living room. We burn corn in the cold part winter so that is very affordable.

I put a new high efficiency gas furnace in a couple of years ago and we light it in the fall to see if it works and have never used it to heat the house the corn Furnace keeps us warm.

If he's in Astoria he might fire up the pellet stove in July. Portland sorta has a Summer though. A frozen bird bath is kinda rare.

Only the Ecoteck Elena does not burn corn in the house but needs to be fed high octane wood pellets to keep it happy. Sounds like a fancy import car Still cheaper to burn corn than 93 cent propane but since it is not that cold will let the freestanding gas stove do it's thing till it gets below freezing and that's coming tomorrow with some flakes. Was a very nice but dry fall here unlike last year.
