Installing my 55-SHP10L pellet stove from Lowe's in my basement. Going through a block wall must I use the Wall Thimble or can I just run the pipe through the block without the thimble?

I have Owens Corning in the basement; I was going to cut an 8 inch hole in the panel and install a trim ring and run the 3 inch pellet pipe through the block. That should be a big enough space in the panel to avoid the heat from the pipe. Any better ideas, or is that good?
