I am having issues with my St. Croix Element. About 50% of the time I have to start it twice. I flashes a code 3 for no flame. I have cleaned everything including the exhaust fan housing. I have replaced the POF sensor. I can even force feed the burn pot on start up and watch the code set during a nice big flame. My POF sensor is mounted on an adjustable bracket. I cannot find any info on the setting of the gap. Should the sensor be touching the fan housing, or should there be an air gap?

That's what I thought. It came from the factory with about 5/32" gap. When I changed the sensor I narrowed the gap using a box top out of the kitchen as a feeler gauge. I wonder how its been working as good as it has. Thanks for the reply!

You're welcome! I maintain an old Earth Stove for a friend, a manual light model that's a nuisance to fire up. It was going out at night when they put it on Low, resulting in a cold house and a PITA to relight. I finally found that its POF switch had come loose from the casting because a screw fell out some time, and the switch wasn't sensing the casting temp properly. A new screw and all is well. Lesson learned.
