I have a Defiant Encore that's about 24 years old, rebuilt 2 years ago. I works fine but the secondary air probe and flap doesn't seem to be working right. The flap vibrates whenever the main damper is open. I adjusted it as the manual specifies (snug then back off 1/4 turn) but it still flaps loudly, particularly when there is any wind outside. Any ideas why or how it can be fixed?

Mine does that too on occasion. I have to manually reset the position of the flap. Did you replace the spring which the flap is attached to?

Yes, spring was replaced when it was rebuilt. Seems to work easily. Could it be there's too much draft? Stove pipe is about 24ft.

I think it's affected by draft, as it was a lot more prevalent when I had my stove on a better drafting chimney. I never figured out a good way to stop the secondary air shutter from chattering. Perhaps you can take the outer cover off and observe it for a while, and see where it's getting hung up. Maybe add something to prevent it from getting stuck.

I'll try to give it less play without restricting its motion. Better wait til it gets warmer outside and the stove is cool... Thanks
