problem with whitfield stove settings

I have a whitfield advantage II free standing which was built in 1994,I would like to know where the settings should be on the combustion fan and on the feed rate they both have a 0 then a plus or minus sign to either go left or right with a turn of a small screwdriver.I am getting a build up of pellets in my burn pot when burning on #3 or #4 and the flames seem to want to go from the front of the burn pot towards the drop chute that the pellets drop from,would sure appreciate some help with this problem.
