Quad 1200i Convection Blower

I think I need to replace the convection blower on my quad 1200i. It has started whining like crazy. Any body know how much this might cost and whether it's pretty easy to do?

Use Google to do a search that way you'll get a feel for prices and if you look at the insides of your stove you should get a feel for what's involved.

The insert and freestanding are a little different as far as layout. The parts are the same though.

The convection blower on the freestanding comes off with the removal of 2 bolts and 2 wires. Thats it... Easy Peasy. ;-P

Pull the insert out to double check, it should also be in the manual as to how to remove it.

As for the price, I never priced it. I have an extra combustion blower and several other brand new shelf parts. But that blower is not one. Just know its removal is Much easier than Combustion blower.

Thanks DD and mtncat. Looks like replacing it will be easy, the hardest part will probably be sliding the insert out.

Hmmm....are you sure it is the convection blower???? I only say this because my experience with my Quad insert is the exhaust blower makes the first whining noises. Double check and make sure before you spend your money. However everyone above is correct. Two bolts and two wires and you are good to go on the convection blower. You do have to pull the stove out to get at it though..

Yeah, the whining doesn't start until the convection blower kicks in.

I just called my dealer and they have it in stock so I guess I've got a project waiting for me.

Ive seen that problem with the 1200 freestander before. Sometimes a thorough clean of the fan blades will help or eliminate the whining.The load up of dust can cause the fan impellers to run out of balance.Ive also had it go away by itself. Unfortunately most of the quadrafire blower motors are factory sealed and"lubed for life"

I thought I had the same problem! Then I realized it was my wife whining %-P Does anyone know how much THAT will cost to fix????? ha ha ha.

I did keep the old one and was going to take a good look at it when I get a chance. But you will have 1st dibs if I decide to get rid of it.

Sounds good. I'm pretty sure it has sealed bearings that are really cheap at McMaster.com. I actually believe they are the same size as skateboard bearings. hmmmmmmmm.
