Quadra-Fire CB1200: Convection Blower Won't Stop

I'm new but I have been searching on here for a while and have not yet found anyone with the same issue I'm having. It seems everyone has pellet feed issues or igniting issues and I haven't found much info on the blower issue that I have been experiencing. I have a CB1200 that came with my house I purchased three years ago. Not exactly sure how old it is but I would say around 5-10 years. I have maintained and cleaned it far better than the previous owners so I haven't had too many issues with it, at least nothing that has stumped me like this.

When my thermostat reaches the set temperature the stove starts the normal shutdown. The flame goes out as the pellets stop feeding. My blower will run non stop until I unplug the stove from the outlet. I cannot figure out what the issue is. I've replaced the thermocouple cover but that did not help. The thermocouple seems to be in decent shape. I can't really find any troubleshooting info either because this doesn't seem to be a common issue. I did recently replace the blower motor because the old one was on it's last leg. I was having this issue before the blower was switched out. Any pointers or advice would be welcome. Thank you.

Convection blower is run by the #1 snap disc. It could be stuck closed. If you pull one wire off of it, blower should stop. Tiime for a new disc. kap

Thanks, this gives me a better idea. I don't have the 1200 insert, I have the standard 1200 stove. I'm sure this should carry over for the standard stove also.

Thanks, I'll give this a try first. I did remove the two snap discs on the side at one point. Could I have gotten wires crossed on the pins that would cause the snap discs to not work properly?

It does not matter which wires go where if there are only two connection points on the snap disc, it's just a switch that works based on heat.

Does your room convection blower start as soon as you plug your stove in? I'm not talking the exhaust flue blower that normally starts then.
If it starts right away, then Kap is right. It's the #1 snap disk.
You said you removed TWO snap disks. One is the #1 disk for the convection blower and the other one is a safety snap disk. Look at the wiring diagram and make sure you have the colored wires going to the right disks. #1 should work at around 120 degrees and the other one at 250. The 250 one is normally closed, so it would run your fan all the time if you hooked up to that one. BUT then using the 120 degree one as a safety would shut your stove down when the stove got up to operating temperature.
When removing things, people should take pictures of everything before touching anything. My phone is FULL of pictures of stove views, engine views, under dash views.

Convection blower snap switch is at fault.

The snap is located on the surface of the heat exchanger housing.

Our good vendors who advertise here can likely help you with a new snap switch.

Unplug the stove
Remove both right and left side panels (give more light inside)

The snap switches are located amidship towards the top of the stove.

Great time to clean out any fur balls and other crud as well.

There should be two snaps on the heat housing.
One is the over temp switch and the other one is the Room air fan.

There is also a snap on the auger tube as well

The room air fan snap will be a normally open (cold) and closes when stove reaches operating temp.

The other snap is normally closed and opens if the stove gets too hot.


The failure you are experiencing is not a common issue, but does happen.

A spare set of snap switches, an igniter, a thermocouple, fuses and some exhaust blower gaskets are good things to have in your spare parts kit on the shelf.

The Quads are pretty reliable units and usually run for years with minimal fuss.

We have a 1000 here at the ranch as our backup and it was installed in 1993.

Been through a fire pot and a few igniters, but little else has ever given issue.
