I've got a friend who has a quadrafire 1000 made back in the early 1991 or 1992....his auto ignite is stopped working. He has a wall thermostat attached to the stove...what he's wondering is there a way to manually light the stove and have it run without the stove turning off after it heats up to thermostat set temperature....
Can he bypass the thermostat and just have the stove run at what the feed rate is set at and not shut off...
Kind of like the Harman stoves on stove mode...

Thanks Bob.

As long as the stove has a proof of fire sensor he'll just need to get a fire established within the stoves start up timing. Once temperature has been reached the stove will kick into work mode and run like normal. As for the thermostat portion, we may need a quad guru for that one.

Or just raise the temp well above what he wants and run the stove lower once he's reached comfy temperature. Sorta like a stove with a hi/lo thermostat mode.

WE have two Quad 1000 stoves.

These are designed to run like a furnace and then shut off.

They do not have a feed control.
The best thing to do is figure out why the auto lighter is not working.

There are a few things that could be wrong.
A burned out igniter would be my first guess.

Does the stove have a steel fire pot with the elongated metal element igniter, or the old ceramic pot with the ceramic igniter ????

The Ceramic units were mostly replaced early on a they were failure prone.

If the igniter is bad it will usually show a burned spot.

Using a VOM and testing for 120V across the two wires of the igniter.

This is done with the stove in start up mode (STAT CALLING FOR HEAT)

If the unit has 120v to the igniter, then the element is Kaput.

There is a possibility that the temp sensor is bad but that will cause other issues.

The control box can fail but they are usually pretty stout.

More info please

Not hard to replace the igniter. If you choose not to you can remove the thermostat and connect the wires together. Stove will run all the time and you can adjust it to the 3 heat settings. I'm assuming it has 3 settings like the newer Quads

You can start with a propane torch if need be. And by pass the stat with a jumper wire connected to both stat terminals.

Hit the reset button. Let the stove fill the burnpot with pellets. Once it stops adding fuel open the door and hit the pellets with the propane torch to get them going and close the door. Don't keep the door open too long it may fault the stove out and you will need to start over. 2 to 3 seconds should do.

Use the feed grate in the hopper to adjust the fuel rate to lower than normal for a slow and steady burn. This will work until you can replace the igniter.
