Question:
I have a 20 year old- wood-burning- regular size Buck Stove. The floor of the combustion chamber has deteriorated. If I replace the floor with 4-1/2" x 9" fire bricks- what is the best way to shape the bricks to completely cover the "trapezoid-shaped" floor? Would I use a special saw? Or should I use something to "score" the brick? Thanks! j<
Answer:
A couple of choices:
1. You can just place full bricks and some broken pieces in and fill the rest with wood ash. This will work well.
2. You can buy "castable refractory cement" at masonry supply stores and pour this in the bottom to create your own firebrick.
3. You can use a special carborundum blade (on circular saw) to score and break the smaller pieces. A tight fit is not critical.
