Reminder to clean your vent

Hello pellet forum members. I burn wood but am posting to remind you to clean your vent/ chimney.
In the small town I live in we had two pellet vent chimney fires this week. In a town of less than 10K that's a lot!
We had the cold many of you are dealing with last week, so everybody was pushing for heat.

Odd that pellet vents would burn. Usually they do not collect creosote or other flammables; usually just fly ash. Of course, there are exceptions, and your reminder is appreciated! Our vents do get clogged if they are not cleaned regularly, and that can lead to problems.

Must be using some interesting fuels, but then again given what we have seen on here anything is possible.

Maybe the altitude? Maybe all that clean, western air? User error?

We clean ours every ton burned, so once a month

Maybe they burn more corn out there? I seem to remember reading that corn is more prone to creosote formation. I don't know if that is only in the stove or makes it way to the exhaust thoug - just throwing it out there.

Could be wore out pipe with holes in it. Need to inspect those yearly with a flashlight at nite so you can see em. Also could of been a bad install. kap

Did the leaf blower trick on the St. Croix today after cleaning. Will do the Harman tomorrow! Thanks to the OP for the reminder as I am sure I've gone thru a ton on the SC and more than that with the Harman since the last vent cleaning.
