Repairing a faint crack, how safe ?

I am wondering if it is possible to repair the crack that my Jotul nr 4 has on the bottom plate, so that the stove would be safe to operate ?
Can I use furnace cement for this repair ? or ...

That is not too serious. Put an inch of play sand on it or a layer of firebrick to protect it.
 
Cracks usually can be stopped from spreading by drilling a small hole at the end of the crack. Just a small hole is all it takes. 1/8" drill. From the attached photo it's hard to tell but the crack left unchecked doesn't have too much further before it's all the way through the part.
