Got these rounds and started to split them. Not White or Red Oak that I could tell.

Could be silver. Bark looks right, wood is similar, rotted out core.

It came down in a wind storm a couple months ago. The core is full of Black Ant nests.

Thanks for the help! I'm going to see what I can salvage for a cutting board.

Is Maple any good for smoking meats like Hickory or Oak?
 
The bark looks like sugar maple, though it's much easier to say from an entire tree trunk.
