I have another problem with my Castile insert. I have my Lux thermostat set at 70 and the swing at 1. I woke up this morning and the temperature was 68. The red light was on the unit but it would not come on until I pressed the reset button. Is this normal? Do I need to do this all the time? Is this an insert or a thermostat problem?

Swing setting should have nothing to do with getting a red light....sounds like a stove problem.

EDIT: Try disconnecting the stat and run the stove....

If I disconnect the stat, will the insert start up without a set point?

Sorry, forget what I said above.....I didn't realize that the Castile has to have a thermostat connected except for when your burning corn.

Have you gone through the Troubleshooting guide in your owners manual?

red light means the thermostat is calling for heat, so it is doing it's job. The problem you are having is usually due to one of the following:
Feed rate set too low.
Pellets are too long causing inconsistent feed.
Thermocouple not pushed all the way into thermocouple cover and/or not positioned properly over the fire.

The feed rate is set at medium and the new pellets I'm using is shorter than the previous ones. The thermos coupling is at question. It's seems to extend far over the fire hole. The manual says it should be 1'' in but it looks like it is almost half over the opening. Should I try resetting it? anyone can provide a photo of how it should look like? Thanks in advance.

just make sure the wire inside is in contact with the inside of the cover.

Yeah, there's 2 separate things that can be out of adjustment with the sensor...

1. The position of the ceramic cover (should be hanging 3/4 inch over the inside burn pot diameter highlighted yellow in picture)

2. The wire/sensor that fits into the ceramic cover has a tendency to pull out of the ceramic as the wire gets baked from the heat and stiffens up. You may have to tweak the wire a little to make sure the sensor can stay buried all the way into the ceramic cover.

Thanks everyone! I moved the thermocouple to only extend an inch over the pit. I also removed the top gasket on the door which I erroneously installed (another topic). The stove has been running normally since. I'm not sure which of the two things fixed it, but I must thank you guys for your input. This forum is great!

........nice pic cncpro........ here's a little 'widget' I bent out of coat hanger wire to hold the sensor all the way in the ceramic cover on mine. It was like you said "tendency to pull out of the ceramic as the wire gets baked from the heat and stiffens up"........ seems to be holding up since last Dec 08..........cc :-)

........click on pic ....it becomes clearer.....
